Heather Mitts, a 2008 Olympics USA Soccer gold medallist visited Windsor on Friday as part of a Team USA Britain Bound programme, organized by Visit Britain. Team USA: Britain Bound is a first-of-its kind, interactive program that will see a roster of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic champions tour Britain this fall. The goal of the program is to bring the Olympic host nation to life for Team USA fans ahead of the London 2012 Games and to help get Team USA even more prepared for competing in Britain next year. The first trip included a visit to Windsor for Heather Mitts, where she was filmed at various tourist sites and the Bel & The Dragon restaurant where she discussed English food and nutritional menus with the manager Michelle Mitchell over lunch. Heather was part of a team of seven U.S. Olympic and Paralympic champions visiting UK tourist sites, all looking to add to their count at the 2012 Games.
The programme was launched at a 1 Year Countdown party at New York’s Lincoln Center on Tuesday July 26th. It will take fans behind the scenes at Olympic venues and iconic British travel spots ahead of the Games next summer. The program’s interactive website (www.TeamUSA.org/BritainBound) will also give American fans the chance to share their ideas on what the athletes should see and do when they arrive in England, Scotland and Wales.
Heather’s experiences in Windsor will be documented in video, still images and blog form and will be shared on www.TeamUSA.org/BritainBound.Original content will be uploaded before, during, and after the trips. The site will also share social media feeds from the athletes’ Facebook and Twitter pages making it easy for fans to follow their adventures in one place.
