As you approach the tree-lined drive that winds beneath the striking Clock Tower, you’ll be in awe of this immense setting. The gleaming, whitewashed exterior of Danesfield House sits overlooking the River Thames between Henley and Marlow and the Chiltern Hills beyond, amongst 65 acres of the most impressive landscaped gardens. Purple wisteria climbs the walls of the building while the wonderful scent of lavender wafts among the grounds. Pretty fountains and waterfalls make Danesfield Gardens so quintessentially English while the Italian Garden adds a touch of the Mediterranean.

Brimming with history, Danesfield House was once home to the Intelligence Section of the RAF. In 1901 the house was re-built as a family home for Robert William Hudson, and in 1991, it first opened its doors as a hotel.

There are 60 stunning rooms and suites to choose from, some with four poster beds or freestanding baths, and some with their own balcony and views across the Thames. There’s a welcome mix of both traditional country house style rooms and more contemporary design to choose from. Huge windows capture the mesmerising scenery and luxurious furnishings dress the rooms beautifully.

Before taking dinner in The Restaurant, soak up your surroundings and suppress pre-dinner hunger pains with a drink in the chandelier-clad Grand Hall with the Gallery, the sun-lit atrium or comfortable cocktail bar. Sublime modern British cuisine can be enjoyed in either The Restaurant, or in the warmer months, The Terrace with its stunning views of the Thames and surrounding countryside.

Monthly Walking Tours of Danesfield's Gardens

Enjoy an informative 1-hour tour of Danesfield's magnificent 65 acres where you will discover the numerous unique plantings, the Italian garden, rare c1900 Pulham Stone monuments and the Danesfield Iron Age Hillfort.

The tour will be followed by a 45-minute talk about the hotel's history as RAF Medmenham. The talk and tour will be presented by Head gardener, Dan Lawrence.

Tours run on the first Wednesday of the month from 13:30 – 15:00pm.

Bus

There are two local bus services between High Wycombe and Reading that travel via Marlow and Henley. Bus numbers 800 and 850. We have a bus stop directly outside the bottom of the drive.

Train

The nearest local train services are:

Marlow (7 min drive) - London Paddington (1 hour journey) via Maidenhead

High Wycombe (20 min drive) - London Marylebone (25 minute journey)
