1. How far is Windsor Castle from Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor & Eton Riverside railway stations?

Windsor Castle is within walking distance of both railway stations.

Windsor & Eton Central is just a 5-minute walk through the station to the Castle, past the Royal Windsor Information Centre.

Windsor & Eton Riverside Station is located down the hill on the Datchet Road approximately a 10-15 minute walk away from the Castle. The Castle is on a hill so there is a slight incline from Windsor and Eton Riverside Station.

 2. How do I get to Legoland® Windsor?

Legoland® Windsor is located on Winkfield Road, Windsor, SL4 4AY, a couple of miles outside the town centre.

If you are coming by car there is parking on site.

For public transport users there is a frequent shuttle bus service (number 200) operating from Windsor Town Centre to Legoland ®.  You can pick up the shuttle bus at two stops: opposite the Theatre Royal at the bottom of Thames Street (handy if you are coming into Windsor & Eton Riverside station) and opposite the Parish Church on the High Street (if you are coming into Windsor & Eton Central station). If you are coming by train, ask for a ticket which includes the shuttle bus service. 

3.  Do I need to use my car in Windsor?

Windsor is a compact town with everything within easy walking distance.  Town centre parking is limited and if you are driving into the town the easiest option is to park-up for your stay and walk as much as possible while you are here.  Look out for the Long Stay car parks which are better value for money.  See our Getting Around section for more information, and for up to the minute information on car parks, parking available, Park & Ride and road closures.

4.  How do I get to Windsor from Heathrow?

Windsor is very close to Heathrow; Terminal 5 is about 20 minutes drive and Terminal 1, 2, 3 and 4 are about 25 minutes away. For step-by-step instructions on how to get to Windsor by car please follow the link to Route finder

Public Transport

The most popular option is the 77 bus, which leaves from Heathrow Terminal 5 and travels westbound on the A4 via Slough. The central stop in Windsor is on the High Street outside the Parish Church (when arriving, and opposite the Parish Church when leaving for Heathrow). The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.

Alternatively, you may wish to take a taxi.  It is always advisable to pre-book for the best rates.  Windsor Radio Cars: 01753 677677.

Lastly, you can take a train from Heathrow to Windsor by getting the RailAir Link Bus from all 5 terminals to Feltham Station. Here, change for a train to Windsor & Eton Riverside. This may be a more appealing option if you have already or are planning to purchase a train pass.

6.  Can I use my bus pass to travel for free?

Anybody over 60 with a valid national concessionary fare pass can travel for free on local bus services (where tickets do not need to be pre-booked) between 09.30 - 23.00 on weekdays and anytime on weekends and bank holidays.

Please note this only applies for passes issued in England not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.  Also passengers must have the new-style passes with the English rose emblem.
