The Crown Estate Christmas Trees for sale from Windsor Great Park

30th November 2011

High quality British Christmas trees and logs will be on sale at the Paddock, Forest Gate (opposite Pink Lodge, on the A332 just outside Windsor), Windsor Great Park, from 1 December. Every year the Windsor Estate supplies Christmas trees to Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral.

The Christmas trees are sold deep in the forest and visitors drive into Forest Gate and through Windsor Great Park to the Log Cabin at the Paddock. Foresters are on hand to give expert advice and you can select the type, size and shape of your tree which range from 3ft to over 25 ft. The tree is then netted up ready to be taken away. A burning brazier will keep the winter chill away as you choose your tree and also buy holly, mistletoe and bags of logs from the Estate.  Over the weekends of 10/11 December and 17/18 December, warming hot drinks, doughnuts and filled rolls will be available to keep the family warm and happy while choosing the Christmas tree.

A selection of smaller Christmas trees from the Windsor Estate, together with an extensive range of imaginative Christmas gifts, decorations and stocking fillers for all the family, will be available from The Savill Building Shop.

Chief Forester John Deakin’s top tips for looking after your Christmas tree include:

  • Once you have bought your Christmas tree, leave it outside until you are ready to bring it into the house to decorate;
  • Place the tree in a proper stand which holds the tree up vertically and holds water. A Christmas tree is like a cut flower and the bottom of the trunk should be immersed in water. Remember to regularly top up the water throughout the Christmas period to reduce needle loss;
  • Choose a spot for the tree in the coolest part of the room away from radiators and fires.

Make your contribution to the environment by bringing back your Christmas tree for recycling from 6 January 2012, to The Savill Garden Car Park which is open from 8am to 4pm throughout January. Just turn up with the tree and unload it into the special compound provided. Christmas trees bought from other outlets are welcome. Only Christmas trees can be accepted for recycling. The trees will be chipped and turned into mulch which is used to enrich the soil throughout The Royal Landscape.
