19th April 2011
Norden Farm is excited to announce the programme for a wonderful summer season, featuring world class acts, exciting new work, up-and-coming talent and the return of some old favourites!
Despite the recent blow of not receiving further funding from the Arts Council for 2012 and beyond, Norden Farm is moving onwards and upwards. It is looking forward to providing Maidenhead with an exciting and vibrant arts centre for the foreseeable future.
Comedy fans will be well catered for, with a mix of big names and the hottest new talent. Imran Yusuf and Rob Rouse are the leaders of the new comedy pack. Legendary sketch troupe Pappy’s make a welcome return. After her foray into the celebrity jungle, we’re also delighted to be welcoming the ultimate grumpy old woman, Jenny Eclair.
Music is high on the agenda, with an eclectic mix of gigs and concerts. The Early Music Series returns, with concerts performed on traditional instruments, beginning with leading ensemble Musica Donum Dei. The concluding concert features the unique sight of two harpsichords and Maidenhead based Early Music expert Katharine May.
For those who like their music a little more rough and ready, Conversation with the Blues charts the history of this prolific genres through song and conversation and images. Kick back and enjoy the elegant sounds of the 1920s and 30s with The Charlton Chasers, or be brought bang up to date with our young bands night Between Two Worlds.
As ever, Norden Farm will be continuing to support new, innovative theatre. This summer, our associate company 1157, bring Fade away radiate, a startling piece of intelligent theatre that explores the nature of being, in a completely laid back and outlandish fashion.
Two incredible minds meet in The Big Smoke, a piece inspired by Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath. It is performed by Ad Infinitum, who brought the astounding Odyssey to Norden Farm last year.
As well as performances, there are plenty of other things to see and do at Norden Farm. Our gallery hosts a range of exhibitions from artists and collectives, using a range of media and inspiration. Exhibitions change every three weeks or so, so it’s always worth popping in to see what’s new.
You can also broaden your horizons and pick up a new skill with the extensive range of classes. New for summer – Fabric, Fruit and Flowers is a still life workshop that accents colour and pattern to create vibrant works of arts. Or join the Maidenhead Community Choir for the invaluable chance to sing with others. There’s also the return of Acoustic Guitar, Yoga, and Book Club.
Norden Farm are pleased to presenting an exciting programme that will appeal to Maidenhead’s diverse community, and cement their status as a valuable resource.
The new season launches on Wednesday 4 May.
