21st February 2012
From summer 2012 private guided cycle tours will be available in Windsor Great Park with Spirit of England Tours. Routes take in glorious views of the Great Park including the award-winning Savill Building, Smith’s Lawn Polo Grounds and Windsor Castle as we pass by the end of the Long Walk. At stops along the way there are stories of Windsor Great Park itself, Kings and Queens, the 1948 Olympic Cycle Road Race which took place here and even Marilyn Monroe.
Each tour is tailored to requirements regarding route, tempo, timing and themes. The tour can start and finish either in Windsor Great Park if you are bringing your own bike or in Alexandra Gardens, Windsor, where bike hire is available. If starting within the Great Park tours are on average 2.5 hours (around 7 miles / 11 km) with a short comfort stop. If hiring bikes at Alexandra Gardens, tours take about 4 hours (around 10.5 miles / 16.5 km) with a short comfort stop.
The route is on private/quiet roads, many part of the National Cycle Network both on the way to and inside Windsor Great Park. All tours are a gentle cycle, not a race.
Families are welcome.
