An award-worthy line up film screenings at Norden Farm this spring
It’s award season once again and Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead have picked the very best movies of the moment to grace their big screen. The BAFTA winners were announced on Sunday and the venues March-April Film Guide is packed full of winners.
March screenings kick off with the biggest winner of the night, La La Land. The film won a total of six BAFTA’s to add to its record seven Golden Globes. Categories it topped include Best Film, Director, Cinematography and Leading Actress for Emma Stone.
Casey Affleck is brooding loner Lee Chandler in Manchester by the Sea, screening at the beginning of March. The film won BAFTA’s for Best Original Screenplay and Leading Actor for Affleck’s moving performance.
Based on a heart-warming true story, Lion follows one man’s journey to reunite with the family he became separated from as a child. British actor Dev Patel won the Best Supporting Actor BAFTA for his performance in the film. It won a second award for Best Adapted Screenplay and is nominated for six Oscars.
Jackie, a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most tragic events in American history, also features on the line up. The movie has seen Natalie Portman earn praise from critics for her portrayal of iconic First Lady - Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.
August Wilson’s Tony award winning play Fences has been adapted for the big screen. Denzel Washington both directs and stars as the film’s protagonist Troy Maxson, a man whose lost dream of glory threatens to tear his family apart.
Denial recounts the true story of Deborah E Lipstadt’s legal battle for historical truth against David Irving, who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. The screening on Thursday 16 March at 2pm will be followed by an open discussion on the issues arising, led by the child of a Holocaust survivor, Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain.
The Easter holidays are packed full of family friendly film screenings as part of Norden Farm’s annual Jump In! Family Arts Festival. Look out for hit film Sing; wonderfully irreverent fun for all ages from The Lego Batman Movie; inspirational documentary Landfill Harmonic; and the return of favourites Moana and Frozen Sing Along.
Other highlights of the March-April programme include critically acclaimed German comedy Toni Erdmann; an award winning performance from Isabelle Huppert in psychological thriller Elle; uplifting and inspiring film Hidden Figures; and nominated for eight Oscars, exquisite drama Moonlight.
Norden Farm will also be hosting screenings exclusively for parents with babies and infants under two years old. Parent and baby screenings this season include 20th Century Women; Loving and Rules Don’t Apply.
