Children invited to join Queen’s birthday salute

18th April 2012

Categories: News

Once again a special invitation has been issued to children in the Royal Borough to help celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

The council will be saying ‘Happy Birthday, Your Majesty’ with its traditional 21-gun salute on Saturday 21 April at 12 noon at Windsor Castle’s Long Walk.

Everyone is invited to the event and particularly children who are often given the opportunity to fire one of the council’s mini cannons, under the watchful eye of experienced borough bombardier John Matthews.

The salute, which usually attracts a sizeable crowd of spectators, will take place at the Long Walk near the Brook Street entrance to Windsor Castle. The first cannon will be fired on the stroke of 12noon.

The birthday tribute will be led by the Mayor, Cllr Asghar Majeed, who is looking forward to this very special Windsor event.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for Royal Borough residents and visitors to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to her Majesty in this her Diamond Jubilee year. I hope the weather is fine and that we will see many people from the local community – especially children – joining in.”
