Windsor Night Market is a ‘Bright Idea’

8th September 2014

Categories: News

Windsor’s first ever Night Market and the winning idea in last year’s Bright Idea Challenge Prize is nearly here. On Saturday 13 September from 6.30 to 11pm, Peascod Street will come alive with tempting food and drink stalls, children's rides and street entertainers.

Maidenhead resident Jeff Lloyd won the Royal Borough’s Bright Idea competition 2013 after the judges loved his idea for a ‘midnight market’ consisting of stalls, live music and evening entertainment. He came up with the idea after several holidays in Europe where ‘after hours’ markets are a frequent event.

Jeff’s plan had its first airing back in July, with a successful Night Market on Maidenhead High Street.

Cllr Natasha Airey, Challenge Prize judge and mentor to Jeff Lloyd, said: “I am extremely excited that a Night Market is coming to Windsor. The one in Maidenhead earlier this summer was a huge success and hundreds of people turned out. It was a fantastic evening and I’m sure Windsor will get the same enthusiastic crowd.”

Jeff is now urging residents to get involved in this year’s Bright Idea competition. He said: "I'm certain almost every resident has positive ideas about how they can improve and add to the Royal Borough and this competition is an obvious way to do this. My head seems to be constantly buzzing with ideas for events and promotions and this was the perfect outlet for me to unload some of them!”

It’s not too late to enter this year’s Challenge Prize. For the adult category there is a first prize of £800 and for the junior one it’s £100. The prize monies are funded from a £20,000 grant; the rest of the money will be used to help create the winning ideas.

Further details and the entry form can be found at: www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/challenge_prize.htm or by emailing brightidea@rbwm.gov.uk

The closing date is 12midnight, Monday 15 September for the adult category and Monday 22 September for under-18s.
