About

Royal Windsor Tours are delighted to offer visitors to Windsor and local residents their ‘Military History Walk’ and ‘Ask a Veteran’ events.

Royal Windsor Tours Military History Walk

If you want to learn more about Windsor’s military history why not join Royal Windsor Tours on a 'Military History Walk', bringing to life the notoriety of some of the Royals and the Military in Windsor?

The tour is led by an ex-Royal Guard who served as a soldier in Windsor Castle, St James Palace, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London so you will have a unique insight into military history.

Royal Windsor Tours Military History Walk: tour length and content

The tour lasts 1-1.5 hours.

Discover more about the lives of Windsor's Victoria Cross recipients; the Armies of Windsor; Oliver Cromwell and the New Model Army; King Edward III and the Black Prince; the Saxon Royal Palace; Bad King John and, of course, the Royal Guard.

Find out why Windsor has been so important to monarchs over the years and gain an insight into the life of a Royal Guard.

Tours run at 10:45am and 1pm Monday to Friday and 1pm on a Saturday between March and October.

Morning tours will include a great view of the Guard as they march past (subject to the Guard March calendar of operation).

Royal Windsor Tours Military History Walk: where to meet for your tour

Please meet by the black information screen opposite the corner of the Harte and Garter Hotel, High Street, Windsor.

The Royal Windsor Tour Staff member will be there wearing a black bowler hat and Royal Windsor Tours company ID badge.

Royal Windsor Tours Military History Walk: ticket information

Tickets are valid for the day of the walk. If you are late for your walk we will try and fit you in to our next walk that day or day after.

There are no refunds. Please consult our website or the Royal Windsor Information Centre for timings.

In the event of wet weather, the walk will go ahead; please come prepared with umbrella or rain cape.

Royal Windsor Tours: Ask a Veteran events

This new event, organised by Royal Windsor Tours, is a unique opportunity for members of the public to have tea, coffee and cake with a British Army Veteran.

Relax, sit and listen to some old steel talk about their experience in the British Army.

Talks are given by the Brigade of Guards Veterans and very special guests.

Talks last 35-45 minutes and are held in Esquires, a local coffee shop.

Please note, this talk is suitable for over 17s only due to some content on warfare.
