About

Royal Windsor Tours are delighted to offer visitors to Windsor and local residents ‘A Walk in Eton', 'The Military History Walk’ and ‘Victoria 200 Walk’.

A Walk in Eton:

A Walk in Eton is a ninety-minute walk around Eton and its college. Find out about the architecture, history and fascinating facts about Eton. We will also cover King Henry VI and the founding of the college, college life and famous OEs – Old Etonians. Also discover the important issues surrounding the management of this special land of Eton, Eton’s spiritual life and why Eton’s bridges are so important to the monarchs and much more.

Tours run at 13:00 Monday to Friday only, between February and October.

Duration:

The tour lasts 1.5 hours.

Length:

Approximately 2 mile in distance.

The Military History Walk:

If you want to learn more about Windsor’s history why not join us on  'The Military History Walk', bringing to life the notoriety of some of the royals and the military in Windsor? This is our most popular walk. Discover more about the lives of Windsor's Victoria Cross recipients; the Armies of Windsor; Oliver Cromwell and the New Model Army; King Henry I; King Henry VIII; King Edward III; the Saxon Royal Palace; King Charles II and Nell Gywn and, of course, the Royal Guard. Find out why Windsor has been so important to monarchs over the years and gain an insight into the life of a Royal Guard.

The tour is led by an ex-Royal Guard who served as a soldier in Windsor Castle, St James Palace, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London so you will have a unique insight into history from a soldier’s perspective.

Tours run at 10:45 and 15:30 Monday to Friday and 13:00 on a Saturday and Sunday between April and October.

Morning tours will include a great view of the Guard as they march past (subject to the Guard March calendar of operation).

Duration:

The tour lasts 1.5 hours.

Length:

Approximately 1 mile in distance.

Tour accessibility:

Royal Windsor Tours considers The Military History Walk as motorised wheelchair accessible.

Victoria 200 Walk:

Royal Windsor Tours' Victoria 200 Walk is available for groups only.  Please contact Royal Windsor Tours directly for information on this tour.

Celebrating the life of Queen Victoria – Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Empress of India. On this walk you will get to know what Queen Victoria was like; her marriage to Prince Albert and their devoted love for each other; the Great Exhibition of 1851 and much more. We will also look at what Victorian life was like; the social and industrial issues of the day; Victoria’s loss of her Consort Prince Albert that emotionally marked her as the ‘Widow of Windsor’. We will also look at controversial issues in the Royal household that made Victoria’s life interesting and special. On this walk we will also talk about other Monarchs and their relationship with Windsor. The Royal Guard, the Long Walk and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s resting place.
