Enjoy The National Trust’s Cliveden this winter with a new children’s Christmas trail, winter walks, Christmas shopping and seasonal treats.

With miles of rambling woodland paths and magnificent views across the Buckinghamshire countryside, Cliveden estate is a popular choice for families during the winter. Every weekend in December there’s a new children’s trail with festive themed tasks set up around the Grade I listed gardens. Cliveden is open every day except Christmas Eve and Christmas day, from 10am to 4pm. So make the most of your membership and bring the family together to remember what makes this time of year so special.

Cliveden estate has transformed into Mother Christmas’ magical workshop grotto where she’s been preparing presents for Father Christmas to deliver on Christmas Eve. But, with the big day fast approaching, Mother Christmas needs help getting the final touches together. Bring along little helpers aged 3 to 13 to complete this fun festive trail with seasonal activities across the estate. Trails costs £5 per child and are free for accompanying adults (usual admission to the estate applies). The Mother Christmas trail runs weekends in December and from Thursday 20 December to Sunday 23 December, from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

It was an Astor family tradition to walk the estate around Christmas time, and now you can make it part of your family tradition too. With 300 acres of natural woodlands to explore, you can take a refreshing walk along the dog-friendly paths and soak up winter views of the Buckinghamshire country side below, now more visible as the trees have shed their autumn leaves. Or, slow the pace down with a gentle walk around the formal gardens where the topiaries have had their winter trim and the giant maze is still open and ready to be explored.

Warm up in Cliveden’s Conservatory Café with a piping hot bowl of homemade winter soup, or indulge on luxury hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and cream. Over in Cliveden’s Gift Shop they’ll once again be selling a selection of pot grown Christmas trees ranging from an 80cm Norway Spruce to a 150cm Nordmann Fir. This year they’ll also be a bespoke National Trust Christmas wreath, adorned with a choice of red or gold draping. Before you leave, make sure to pop into the new Weighbridge second-hand bookshop which, with the sale of every book, helps fund Cliveden’s Generator House conservation project.

Cliveden is open every day, all year round, only closing on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; giving you plenty of opportunity to get into the great outdoors this Christmas at the National Trust’s Cliveden.
