Meet Sir Oswald and Lady Diana Mosley and discover the private personas behind the Fascist leader and his unorthodox wife. Draining The Swamp is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Thursday 28 September at 5.30pm and 8pm, Friday 29 September at 8pm and Saturday 30 September at 2pm. Tickets are £15 | £13 concession.
This provocative new play developed by The Company explores the character, activities and legacy of Sir Oswald Mosley. He was given a short, sharp portrait in the BBC Peaky Blinders series. The play brings to life the meteoric political rise of Mosley as a potential Labour Prime Minister and the subsequently founding and development of the British Union of Fascists.
We see Mosley and Diana Mitford on their wedding day at Joseph Goebbels’s house in Berlin. Then witness the events leading up to the infamous Battle of Cable St, before the Mosley’s are incarcerated in Holloway Prison during the war. Mosley ponders on his legacy and the opportunities for future political leaders to communicate with and stir the masses. Finally, that legacy is given substance in events taking place in 2019.
Draining the Swamp has been created by writer and actor Rowland D Hill. He is better known to Maidenhead audiences as David Hill, the original Founding Director of Norden Farm Centre for the Arts. David and his family moved to Maidenhead in 1996. He continued to live in Maidenhead whilst he developed ArtReach, which is a specialist arts consultancy and Festival producing company that now has an international reputation.
The Company is a new production company formed as a subsidiary of DRH Arts Ltd and operates under the leadership of Rowland D Hill.
David is delighted to be returning to Norden Farm to present his provocative new play about Sir Oswald Mosley.
