Latest film screenings – Barbenheimer heads to the Farm
The cinema screen at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts showcases the latest blockbuster, family, arthouse and event cinema films.
Films are £10.50 | £9.50 conc. Bring Baby screenings are £5.50 for adults (including a cup of tea/coffee); babies and infants are free of charge. Event Cinema screenings are £16.
It’s one of the films everyone has been talking about this Summer - Barbie (12) is on Tuesday 5 September at 2.30pm. She’s everything. He’s just Ken. Barbie suffers a crisis that leads her to question her world and her existence – a visually dazzling comedy whose meta humour is smartly complemented by subversive storytelling.
The other half of the Barbenheimer craze is Oppenheimer (15) starring Cillian Murphy. J Robert Oppenheimer is haunted by the weapon he created – that could either save the world. Or end it. See Oppenheimer on Tuesday 5 September and Thursday 7 September at 7.30pm or on Friday 8 September and Saturday 9 September at 4.30pm.
Joy Ride (15) is a hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery. Audrey is on a business trip to China. While there, she enlists her friends to help find her birth mother. The four unlikely friends embark on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip. Screenings are on Friday 8 September and Saturday 9 September at 8pm. There is also a Bring Baby screening on Friday 8 September at 2pm.
Foreign language films include L’immensita (12A) set in Rome in the 1970s. Penélope Cruz is Clara. She is a parent and a wife in a stale marriage. Both Clara and her eldest daughter Adri are struggling with their identities. The film is a story about the love between Clara and her children. The film is in Italian with English subtitles. Screenings are on Tuesday 12 September and Wednesday 13 September at 8pm. Plus Thursday 14 September at 2pm and 8pm.
Afire (12) is in German with English subtitles. A group of friends are on holiday by the Baltic Sea. The days are hot and it hasn’t rained in weeks. As the parched forest around them catches fire, their emotion runs high. See it on Friday 15 September at 11.30am and Thursday 21 September at 8pm.
The Innocent (15) is a comedy heist thriller. Abel’s mother Sylvie marries an inmate at the prison where she teaches. Abel struggles to come to terms with the criminal background of his mother’s new husband. With the help of his best friend, he will do whatever it takes to protect her. This film is in French with English subtitles. Screenings are on Wednesday 27 September at 8pm.
Other films on offer include Will Farrell in animated comedy Strays (15); and the community bands together to keep their beloved summer camp afloat in Theatre Camp (12A);
Event Cinema screenings include The King of Waltz André Rieu’s 2023 Maastricht Concert – Love Is All Around; a bold new imagining of Wagner’s Ring cycle in Royal Opera House Live: Das Rheingold; and a much-loved staging of Donizetti’s intoxicating and witty comedy in Royal Opera House Live: L'elisir d'amore.
Just announced – James Norton (Happy Valley) stars in the screening of A Little Life. The play is based on the million-copy bestselling book by Hanya Yanagihara and has had a sell-out West End run. Set in New York City, a group of friends are pulled apart by ambition, addiction and pride. Screened on Tuesday 3 October at 2pm and 8pm.
Ticket prices vary; see Norden Farm's website for more information.
