Norden Farm's Lantern Parade & Workshops

Your chance to light up Maidenhead with lantern making workshops
How you can get illuminate Maidenhead with the Lantern Parade!

Norden Farm Centre for the Art’s annual Lantern Parade returns on Saturday 9 December. Here’s how you can get involved!

The parade is made up of willow lanterns created by members of the public, schools and community groups.

Norden Farm will be running workshops throughout November and December to create the lanterns.

Community workshops take place at Norden Farm and in Maidenhead Town Centre. They arerun by artists from community arts charity, Same Sky. Same Sky is an award-winning community arts charity based in Brighton. They create magical, out-of-this-world events and luminous night-time parades.

Same Sky has been bringing creative energy, public art and entertainment into the community for over 25 years. They have worked with Norden Farm for six years as part of the Lantern Parade project.

This year’s event is themed The Carnival of the Animals. The intricate willow lanterns will be inspired by animals from all over the globe.
The family friendly workshops are open to all – over the years, artists have worked with people aged from 2 – 92 years! Some parts of making a lantern are rather fiddly for little fingers, so we encourage families to work together, with younger children taking the lead with decorating!

Workshops are on sale now and cost just £4 per person.

Historically the workshops have sold out quickly, so booking is highly recommended. (Details of workshops)

Can’t make it down to one of the workshops? Don’t panic, you can still get involved. Keep an eye on Norden Farm’s Facebook and Twitter pages to find out how you can get parade ready at home by creating festival fever shakers ready for the parade!

And remember, you don’t need a lantern to take part in this colourful carnival! Just come down, enjoy the spectacle, dance to the music and celebrate with the community! Don’t miss out on getting parade ready ahead of the big event on Saturday 9 December!

Norden Farm’s annual lantern parade assembles outside the Town Hall at 4.30pm and departs at 5pm. Lantern making workshops will be held in the run-up to the event – check out for full details.
