Introducing Bhangra to mainstream audiences for the first time. RSVP Bhangra is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 1 December at 8pm. Tickets are £16 | £14 concession.
RSVP is spearheading the renaissance of live Bhangra in the UK. From massive stages at Glastonbury (8 years) and Womad (4 years), to concert venues across the UK and Europe. They’re always guaranteed to get even the most reluctant on their feet, and leave audiences breathless with excitement.
Every show comes with an introduction to Bhangra dance. Singer Dildar is the guiding light behind RSVP and is charismatic and fun. He brings tremendous vitality and huge stage-presence to the band. His vocals are both smooth and rich, with an uncanny ability to exercise a considerable level of power and energy at the same time.
Judge plays the bass guitar as well as adding Rap to the RSVP mix. He’s a crazy and innovative dancer, combining his distinctive Bhangra moves with western dance routines. By day he is a mild-mannered IT computer consultant, and by night a funky fully-fledged party machine!
Jeevan is on percussion and is Dildar’s eldest son. He has inherited his dad’s charisma and musical flair. He is an excellent keyboard player as a side-line, but his true skill lies with percussion.
On guitar and mandolin is Cris, who contributes harmonic and melodic elements to the overall sound of RSVP, while reinforcing the polyrhythmic texture of the Bhangra style. His interest in the folk and roots traditions of Central European, Middle Eastern and Asian music is reflected in his modal style of playing.
Puggy is the drummer and learned to play the tabla and dholak as a child. But he moved over to playing the modern drumkit. He can play Bhangra, reggae, funk, D’n’B or hip-hop and is always reliably delivering the all-important beat to keep a crowd on their feet dancing.
Everyone’s included with RSVP’s emphasis on partying, Punjabi style. With musicians wholly rooted in an authentic living tradition, yet unafraid to innovate, this is the ultimate celebratory Indian music.
