Celebrating music from Miles Davis to Wynton Marsalis. The Mark Armstrong Quartet – From Miles to Marsalis is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 26 May at 8pm. Tickets are £16.
Jazz trumpet player Mark Armstrong began his musical journey at a young age. Through various youth orchestras, an Oxford music degree and a post grad from the Guildhall, he has earned a strong reputation in the UK’s jazz scene. A member of the Ronnie Scott’s Orchestra and a hugely admired educator, his Trumpet playing encompasses the entire Jazz History.
Alex Hutton will be on piano. Alex is a fine composer with an ear for folk and classical influences and is known on the London jazz scene. He has worked with Jim Mullen, Pete King, Pete Wareham and more.
Dave Mannington is on bass. He is also a composer and arranger and one of the mainstays of the London jazz scene. Dave is a founder member of the Loop Collective and he has played with many of the pre-eminent jazz musicians in the UK and Europe. He is also a founder member of the much respected e17 jazz collective.
Andy Ball is on drums. He is a jazz drummer foremost and has a masters degree in jazz drums from the prestigious Royal Academy of Music. Andy teaches and plays drums professionally and has performed at venues from the glitz of the Royal Albert Hall to the world famous Du Dec Lombards jazz club in Paris.
This concert concentrates on music from Miles Davis to Wynton Marsalis, especially the ‘Tension and Release’ or ‘Call and Response’ these bands exhibited. Watch out for spontaneous arrangements, especially regarding in the rhythm that will take everyone off guard. Even the band!
This night of jazz in the studio setting at Norden Farm is not to be missed.
