The Matthew Read Trio

The Guitar Trio with a Fresh Edge on Jazz

The Matthew Read Trio performs melody-driven original compositions from their much anticipated second album. They come to Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Thursday 15 March at 8pm. Tickets are £12 (£10 conc).

The Matthew Read Trio brings together three extremely like-minded musicians in a guitar trio setting. They play a repertoire entirely comprised of originals by members of the band. The line-up comprises Benedict Wood (guitar), Arthur Newell (drums) and Matthew Read (double bass).

Matthew took double bass lessons funded by a college music scholarship. He graduated with a first class honours degree in Jazz from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He was also the 2016 recipient of the prestigious Dankworth Prize for Big Band composition and arranging.

The trio was formed in 2015. They bring together three approaches for music making. Together they draw influence from a multitude of styles including jazz, folk, country, hip hop, dance music, spirituals, improvised music and both European and American church music. The musicians are inspired by the bands of Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Paul Motian and many more. Benedict, Arthur and Matthew create an exciting new performance every time they play. The Matthew Read Trio brings a fresh edge to the world of the guitar trio.

Their first album Anecdotes was launched in April 2016. The Matthew Read Trio will be visiting Norden Farm on the launch tour of their much anticipated second album Anecdotes Volume 2. This album marks the continuation of their first album. It features a brand new set of melody-driven original compositions.
