About

A bar crawl through history in Maidenhead (and free drinks!)

The Thinking Drinkers return with a brand-new show, a hilarious and intoxicating bar crawl through history meeting some of the greatest drinkers ever along the way. Heroes of Hooch is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 6 December at 8pm. Tickets are £16. Suitable for ages 18+ years.

Enjoy five free drinks as the award-winning experts reveal how alcohol has inspired pioneering explorers, politicians and painters in equal measure, from Plato and Picasso, to Nelson, Napoleon and Norm from Cheers.

The Thinking Drinkers are award-winning drinks writers and comedy performers Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham. Ben is the triple-crowned winner of British Beer Writer of the Year. He is the youngest ever recipient of the prize. He is also the author of World’s Best Beers: 1000 Unmissable Brews from Portland to Prague and Boutique Beer: 500 of the World’s Finest Craft Brews. Tom is the former editor of leading industry spirits and cocktail magazine CLASS. He lectures on spirits for the Wine & Spirits Education Trust. He launched the Top 50 Bars of the World and House Tonic magazine for the Soho House Group, and is also the author of the award-winning World’s Best Cocktails.

Ben and Tom met in their 20s whilst working on a leading pub magazine. They left for America where they co-wrote the award-winning Good Beer Guide West Coast USA. They are drinks columnists for the Daily Telegraph newspaper and regularly contribute to an array of international publications. The duo are drinks experts for Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and both regularly appear on radio and television espousing their ‘drink less drink better’ message.

Together Ben and Tom wrote and performed a unique comedic drinking show. The Thinking Drinker’s Guide to Alcohol debuted at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Following sell-out shows and excellent reviews, it returned to Edinburgh in 2012. It also been performed at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and Taste of London. Since then they have taken numerous successful shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and various other festivals around the UK.

You'll learn a lot, you'll laugh a lot and, don't forget, you get five free drinks.
