Join Jeff Lloyd for a nostalgic trip through the music of Teen Idols with The Vinyl Frontier.
The Vinyl Frontier heads online once again as Norden Farm Centre for the Arts live streams The Vinyl Frontier: Jeff's Guide to Teen Idols from the main stage on Saturday 27 February at 8pm. Tickets are £8 per household.
The Vinyl Frontier is a popular monthly event at Norden Farm. Host Jeff Lloyd presents evenings brimming with music, trivia, chat – and, of course, records played live on vinyl. This will be the ninth live streamed event with The Vinyl Frontier.
After Jeff's Guides to New Wave, Glam Rock and One Hit Wonders he takes us into the world of screaming, tearful fans who adored their idols like none other. Will your favourite teenage crush be featured in this light-hearted tour of pin ups and posters? From Elvis to the present day fans have adored their favourite artists. Who will make the cut?
Host Jeff Lloyd says “To be able to distil all the candidates down to a number that fits a Vinyl Frontier 'Guide to..' I had to come up with a definition of what a Teen Idol was/is. I decided that, most importantly, the artist must have had screaming adulation. And when that filter is applied you find that we start in 1963.”
He continues “Many 'Teen Idol' records are dismissed by the musical cognoscenti, but we'll revisit some of the classics of the genre and see if that criticism is still justified. I'll also be playing what I consider to be the greatest of all the 'forgotten' No.1 records of the 70s. A track that should have been covered by a myriad of artists but never has. So, settle down and travel with me through tears, screams, scarves, flares, bottle tops and face paint as we discover who the Teen Idols were and are.”
All the music will be played on vinyl with the chance to join in the chat from home via Norden Farm’s very own streaming platform. The perfect night of nostalgia to beat Saturday night boredom this month!
