Flagbearers for Francophone culture bring their infectious music to Maidenhead
A live show that combines songwriting elegance with the dynamism of three experienced and truly passionate performers. Vishtèn performs at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Wednesday 6 February at 8pm. Tickets are £14 (£12 conc).
For over a decade, Vishtèn has earned its place as one of the most respected bands on the international touring scene. The members of this driving trio are powerful Francophone singers and fiery multi-instrumentalists. They fuse Acadian and Celtic genres with rock and indie-folk influence. The trio is a flagbearer for its unique Acadian musical tradition and an ambassador for Francophone culture throughout the world.
Emmanuelle and Pastelle LeBlanc are twin sisters from Prince Edward Island. In Vishtèn, they join forces with Pascal Miousse. He is a direct descendant of the first colonial families to inhabit Quebec’s remote Magdalene Islands. All three musicians have a rich musical upbringing and heritage. However, their take on their musical traditions looks forward as much as it looks back.
Tight sibling harmonies, layered foot percussion and a compelling trademark blend of fiddle, guitar, accordion, whistles, piano, bodhrán and jaw harp create an expansive sound that triumphantly defies the parameters of a trio.
The band has received four East Coast Music Awards, including Roots/Traditional Group Recording of the Year for Terre Rouge in 2016, four MusicPEI Awards and Québec’s Édith Butler Award in recognition of their contributions to la Francophonie Canadienne.
They have performed thousands of shows at international events and venues, including the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, Philadelphia Folk Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France, Shetland Folk Festival in Scotland and Temple Bar Trad Festival in Ireland, among others.
Join us for an evening of infectious rhythms of tapping feet and lilting mouth music.
