Windsor and the Royal Borough is particularly well known for its equestrian events and activities. The Royal Windsor Horse Show takes place within the grounds of Windsor Castle; Windsor Horse Trials and the Carriage Driving Championships are both very popular events that take place within Windsor Great Park. Add to this the excitement of horse racing at both Royal Windsor and Ascot Racecourses throughout the year and polo from April to September and there really is something to interest any horse enthusiast. The Royal Borough has a close affinity with watersports. With the River Thames running through the Borough and a number of reservoirs and the world-class rowing lake at Dorney, the Royal Borough it the perfect setting to get onto the water.
Watersports have become ever-more important to the Royal Borough as the Dorney Rowing Lake has been chosen for the Olympic venue of the 2012 Rowing, Adapted Rowing and Flat-Water Canoeing/Kayaking. Eton Dorney Rowing Lake is the main local rowing centre and future Olympic venue. Despite being an international centre for rowing many facilities are available for use for local clubs. Please visit their website for further information.
Both Centres at Bray Lake and Datchet Watersports provide courses and equipment hire for dinghy sailing and windsurfing

The best way to really get to know an area is by cycling or walking. The Royal Borough has a network of around 300km of public rights of way, offering access to a wealth of beautiful countryside, woodland, parkland and the river scenery of the Thames Path. The towns and villages offer historic walking trails and the national cycle network provides a safe and attractive route through parts of Maidenhead and Windsor that both cyclists and walkers can make the most of.

The area is famous for its golf and is home to some of the finest championship courses this country has to offer, including Wentworth, Sunningdale and Stoke Park. As well as the local Golf Clubs themselves, many of the hotels in the area have their own 9-hole courses or arrangements for guests to play at nearby clubs.
