What's On in Windsor & Maidenhead

Looking to check out what's on in Windsor, Maidenhead and in local villages such as Cookham during your stay?

Looking to time your visit with a specific event in our ‘what's on in Windsor’ calendar?

Either way, you have come to the right place!

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is brim-full of great events for all ages and for all interests all year round.

Simply use the ‘search what's on in Windsor’ facility to check the events calendar and start planning.

The Arts

Enjoy the thriving arts scene at our dynamic arts centres Norden Farm, Maidenhead and the Old Court Artspace in Windsor.

Both offer an eclectic mix of live performances, comedy, music and film all year round.

The historic Theatre Royal nestles at the foot of Windsor Castle and offers its audiences a new production every fortnight.

It’s a perfect way to see shows before they head to the West End or on national tour.

There are comedy nights, tribute bands and one of the best pantomimes in the local area - oh yes it is!

Equestrian Events

The Queen has a lifelong passion for horses so it follows that equestrian events are hugely popular in the Royal Borough.

She attends the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show each May and of course every day of the Royal Ascot meeting in June.

Why not enjoy a flutter on the horses yourself at Ascot Racecourse, where jumps and flat racing take place throughout the year?

Or visit Royal Windsor Racecourse, uniquely located on an island in the River Thames, for an evening or daytime meeting between April and October.

Don’t forget you can get tickets for all race meetings and the horse show in person or online from the Royal Windsor Information Centre

Town Centre Events

Windsor, Eton and Maidenhead have a fun and wide range of town centre events at key times of the year.

Watch hilarious pancake racing in the town centres on Shrove Tuesday (February), rubber duck racing on the Thames in June, artists capturing Windsor and Eton landmarks at the En Plein Air painting competition each summer, delicious local food and drink markets, night markets and pumpkin carving parties in October.

But Christmas is a very special time and all the family will enjoy our Christmas events – superb Christmas lights, colourful fireworks, Christmas markets, LaplandUK, wonderfully creative living advent calendars throughout December and, of course, traditional carols.

What better place to enjoy the yuletide season?

Historic venues, like Windsor Castle and Windsor Guildhall, come to life when the annual Windsor Festival takes place in September and the Spring Festival takes place in March.

The festival’s ‘what's on in Windsor’ programme features literary events, music, talks, guided walks and much, much more!

Windsor has a Fringe Festival too and an International String Competition every two years – plenty for those with an interest in cultural events.

Annual Events

Did you know that the Royal Borough celebrates The Queen’s birthday each April with the firing of 21 mini cannons on the Long Walk in Windsor Great Park?

Or that the annual Windsor Contemporary Art Fair has raised more than £45,000 so far for the Prince’s Trust whilst bringing together over 160 artists, printmakers, photographers, sculptors, ceramicists and selected galleries offering the very best in contemporary art with prices from £50 to £5,000?

Sporting Events

Whether you enjoy taking part or prefer to be a spectator, there are some great sporting events taking place locally.

The Royal Windsor Triathlon is a major event in the summer and there are half marathons and 10K races throughout the Royal Borough too.

Dorney Lake, Eton College’s rowing lake where Olympic dreams were made real in London 2012, hosts many events throughout the year.
