It was while riding out from Windsor Castle in 1711 that Queen Anne first saw the land that had potential for horseracing. Inspired by what she had discovered, the inaugural event – Her Majesty’s Plate – was held at Ascot upon her request that August.
Over the years the patronage of thirteen monarchs has helped make Ascot one of the world’s best-loved racecourses and it remains a pillar of British sporting and social culture. Covering 179 acres, the racecourse welcomes over 630,000 guests each year and is the home of some of the sport’s most prestigious race meetings ensuring that Ascot’s stature, reputation and famed celebration of occasion is admired the world over.
Alongside Royal Ascot, the racecourse’s famous five-day meeting, Ascot hosts an additional 21 racedays throughout the year, each with its own unique character offering the perfect day out and the opportunity to celebrate any occasion.
It’s not just horseracing, with magnificent grounds, excellent facilities and a wealth of indoor space, the racecourse is a superb location to host conferences, weddings, exhibitions, private parties and corporate events. Several non-racing events also take place at intervals throughout the year, including the ever-popular Luna Cinema and our renowned Christmas Party evenings.
Maintaining the balance between tradition and innovation makes Ascot racecourse a unique sporting venue. Explore what’s on offer in 2024 and find your next day out.
