Top Tips for May

Welcome to May in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Here are our Top Tips for May

Royal Windsor Horse Show

May sees Royal Windsor Horse Show, the UK’s largest premier outdoor horse show at Windsor, set in the private grounds of Windsor Castle 10-14 May.

Enjoy international show jumping, dressage and carriage driving and a whole host of national classes too.

There are numerous exciting displays such as the Shetland Pony Grand National and the skill of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

Peruse the retailers’ stalls in the shopping village for that perfect purchase.

Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival

The Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival will see one of the largest single gatherings of Jaguar, SS cars and Daimlers!

The event on Saturday 6 May will include a stunning parade of up to 250 Jaguars from both past and present through Windsor Town Centre and into The Quadrangle of Windsor Castle before going on display at the Frogmore Cricket Club for the public to enjoy.

However, the excitement does not end there as a further 750 Jaguars are expected to line The Long Walk giving the public a chance to admire models covering over 80 years of Jaguar’s rich heritage.

Go Racing

It’s a great month if you love horseracing or want to find out more about it!

Windsor Racecourse has five racing fixtures this month including three evening meetings.  It kicks off and ends May with a family fun day on each of the Bank Holiday Mondays.

Want to know more about racing but don’t know where to start?

Discover Ascot Raceday could be just for you.  Enjoy free admission to the Queen Anne Enclosure and discover numerous activities including how to decipher a race card and how to study form!

May also sees Ascot's only evening meeting on Friday 12 May.

Experience one of the finest Tudor manor houses in England

One of our ‘hidden gems', fascinating and historic Dorney Court opens its doors to the public for four days in May.

It’s widely regarded as one of England’s finest Tudor manor houses and has been lived in by the Palmer Family for almost 500 years.

Enjoy the house and the garden then pop to nearby Dorney Court Kitchen Garden for refreshments.

Dorney Lake (venue for London 2012 rowing and canoeing) is a stone’s throw away with beautiful grounds in which you can enjoy a walk or a picnic.

Explore Eton College

Discover one of the oldest and most famous schools in the country as Eton College opens its historic doors and offers seasonal guided tours between 5 May and 8 September on Friday afternoons.

You'll see School Yard, College Chapel, Upper School, Lower School, the Museum of Eton Life and the current exhibition in the Verey Gallery, all with the expert knowledge of a blue badge guide.

Listen to the Dawn Chorus at Cliveden

Enjoy a feast for the senses as Cliveden’s birds wake up on a spring morning and break into song.

Cliveden’s knowledgeable guide will tell you more about the birds that make the National Trust’s estate their home as you enjoy a walk through the gardens and woodland on either 13 or 20 May.

It’s an early start – 5:30am – but afterwards you can reward yourself with a hearty breakfast in the National Trust’s Orangery Café.

Enjoy a Carnival of Colour within Windsor Great Park

The display of multi-coloured azaleas in the Valley Garden’s  Punch Bowl is breathtaking in the springtime, as too are the award-winning rhododendrons in the Savill Garden.

Check the Windsor Great Park website to make sure the flowers are still in bloom before you make a special journey.
