Classic hits get jazzed up on stage

Your favourite 70s and 80s hits but in a way you’ve never heard before! Jazz Dynamos are at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 24 May at 8pm. Tickets are £16.

This is a five-piece band who take well known songs and transform them with a mix of jazz, bossa and samba. Their unique set of exuberant, entertaining, original contemporary jazz arrangements includes hits by Dolly Parton, Genesis, Madonna, U2, the Police, A-Ha, Rainbow, Elton John and Britney Spears.

The band are fronted by world class vocalist Lucy Randell. She has an effortlessly charming persona to go with her agile and exacting vocals, which make excellent work of the more challenging arrangements. At times she invokes the essence of Astrud Gilberto’s famous The Girl from Ipanema during playful Latin segments, paired with her similarly playful percussion. She moves from sultry samba songs into soulful numbers which grips the audience throughout.

The arrangements themselves, by Mark Adelman on keyboard are as exquisite as they are surprising. Many of which include seamless mergers of seemingly incompatible songs that shouldn’t work, but they do.

The quartet is completed with Anders Janes on double bass, Dominque Metz on drums and Stewart Curtis on sax, flute and piccolo. The group play with panache and style only achievable as a tight-knit group listening to and working off each other flawlessly.

Jazz Dynamos have performed sold out shows at legendary Ronnie Scott’s and Pizza Express Jazz Clubs in London, festivals in UK, Italy, Sweden, France, Norway and Bulgaria and at private events for British and Hollywood Royalty.
