The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is just 30 miles west of London with Heathrow Airport even closer, just 15 minutes away. Luton and Gatwick Airports are both within an hour's drive.
The whole of the Royal Borough is easily accessible via the major motorway networks of the M3, M4, M25 and M40.
The Windsor area is also well served by public transport, with a direct bus from London Victoria and two train stations connecting to London and the West Country.

Volker Highways on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are carrying out essential major repairs to the Elizabeth Bridge on the A332 Royal Windsor Way. The work is necessary due to the severe corrosion of the bridge. The corrosion is due to a build-up of water in the abutments that has caused the steel connections to corrode over time. The cable ties work together to take the load of the bridge as the vehicles travel over it.
The main element of the work involves the replacement of the 10 cable ties that bear the weight of the bridge. The majority of the repairs can be carried out underneath the bridge and therefore we have tried to keep the impact on motorists to a minimum. In order to complete the project safely and efficiently, there will be significant lane and some full road closures which will potentially impact road users.
Works commence on Monday 17 August 2020 for a duration of 21 weeks until Friday 8 January 2021. The main structure repairs will be carried out during this time. Find out the full details of the works here and full closure details here.
The ongoing M4 junctions 3-12 smart motorway project will necessitate a number of motorway closures and diversions. Please visit Highways England M4 junctions 3-12: smart motorway page for a full list of dates and more detail and please allow extra time for your journey to the Royal Borough when these closures and diversions are in place.

The guard march is a unique event that takes place in central Windsor.
Please note that traffic is stopped when the guards make their way between the barracks on Sheet Street, along the High Street and into the Castle.
Traffic Wardens and Police control traffic on the following approaches to the centre of town: Thames Street, the junction of Victoria Street and Sheet Street and near the junction of Frances Road and Sheet Street.
Traffic is usually stopped between 10:45am and 11:00am (as the guards march to the Castle) and between 11:15am and 11:30am (as they return to the Barracks).
