If you enjoy watching some live entertainment at the theatre then you’ll be glad you chose to visit the Windsor and Maidenhead area, with its thriving theatre and buzzing arts centres.
The Theatre Royal is a beautiful Edwardian theatre nestling in the shadow of Windsor Castle. It’s a very intimate theatre with just 620 seats meaning you are never far from the action!
The Theatre’s repertoire is wide, ranging from the classics and traditional pantomime to first productions of new work, some of which subsequently transfer to the West End.
West End shows without the London price tag: what a bargain!
It’s the only unsubsidised producing theatre to operate all year round in Britain and has Bill Kenwright as its Executive Producer.
Why not enjoy a pre-theatre meal? Visit our Food and Drink page for inspiration.
In the summer months, some theatre goes ‘open air’. Independent companies often perform in spaces like Alexandra Gardens (Windsor), The Savill Garden (Windsor Great Park) and the National Trust Gardens at Cliveden.
You can also enjoy theatre, including performances for families, at our arts centres – Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead and the Old Court in Windsor.
Norden Farm does live event screenings too so you can enjoy National Theatre Live and opera and ballet from Royal Opera House Live without travelling the distance!
Watch out for performances by local amateur dramatic societies, such as the Windsor Theatre Guild.
Search ‘What’s On’ for theatre events taking place in the Windsor, Eton, Maidenhead and Ascot area.
