On Saturday 30 July the grounds of Windsor Castle will be the setting for Platinum Jubilee Windsor and Eton En Plein Air 2022, an outdoor painting competition followed by the largest outdoor street gallery. This is a very special year with over 70 artists taking part to mark The Queen’s 70 years on the throne.
En Plein Air (Open Air) Windsor and Eton is one of the town’s fastest growing and most exciting competitions. 74 artists will be coming to Windsor to create their own masterpieces within a 6-hour time frame at various locations around the world-famous Windsor Castle. Following this an exhibition of all the works will take place in Windsor Royal Station Shopping Centre and prizes awarded by the judges.
The winning piece will be presented to HM The Queen for inclusion in her private collection.
First Prize - £1000 and £500 worth of art materials.
Second Prize - £500
Third Prize - £250
Her Worshipfulness the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Christine Bateson will be attending to present all of the prizes for the day.
The competition began in 2012 as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and has continued from then, attracting hundreds of artists all over the country.
On the day artists bring their canvass, painting materials and an easel. Their canvasses will be stamped at the beginning of the day, the artist can then chose one of the 11 pre-arranged locations within Windsor Castle from which to create their piece of work. The artists will have up to 6 hours to create their work and then a pop-up Street Gallery will be set up in Windsor Royal Station where the public will have the opportunity to see and buy the work. The Gallery opens at 5.00pm with judging and prizes awarded from 6.00pm.
Sue Watts Windsor Royal Station Centre Manager said “This is wonderful competition which allows artists the opportunity to paint in unusual spaces and exhibit their work. We would love to see as many people attend the exhibition and are encouraged to ask questions of the artists themselves about their technique and style of work.”
Get caught up in the excitement of watching paintings come to life before your eyes.
Then come and enjoy the pop up exhibtion and judging within Windsor Royal Station.
Come and be part of this great spectacle: art created en plein air.
