Celebratory summer concert at Norden Farm

The second of four celebratory concerts performed between July and September. Summer Recital Series – St John’s Ensemble is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Wednesday 17 July at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18 | Under 18s free.

The ensemble perform Schubert’s Sonatina in D for violin and piano; Mozart’s Adagio and Rondo, K.617; Beethoven’s Trio in B flat for clarinet, cello and piano, Op.11 and Schubert’s Quintet in A (Trout).

Schubert’s great Quintet is one of the happiest and enchanting chamber works ever composed. This delightful summery programme also includes an early Beethoven trio and Mozart’s final chamber work, originally intended to include glass harmonica.

Ron Colyer (violin) was a violinist for the Philharmonic Orchestra of London and BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also taught viola and violin for over forty years.

Susan Black (viola) is a classical musician with a wide experience of both orchestral and chamber music.

Paul Cox (cello) is current conductor of the Reading Youth Orchestra. He is also Head of Strings at Southampton University and is chairman of the Eureka Foundation.

Kate Addis (double bass) is a professional classical bass player living in Berkshire. She has worked with many talented musicians and performs in concert halls, theatres, cathedrals, films sets and more.

Caroline Owen (clarinet) studied on the Joint Course at the University of Manchester and the RNCM and subsequently in Paris. She won awards for clarinet playing and composition, including the RNCM Chamber Music prize in 1993 and the Thames Valley Young Musician competition in 1997. Her career also involved teaching clarinet, saxophone, flute, recorder and piano.

Jay Wilkinson performs the flute and Rachel Porter is on the oboe.

Nigel Wilkinson makes a return on piano. Nigel is an examiner for the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He was also previously a senior producer on BBC Radio 3.
