Miniland Royal Family get a Royal Ascot make-over courtesy of The Queen's hat maker

10 June 2014. Seven head turning 10cm high regal LEGO® models including The Queen and The Duchess of Cambridge got an exclusive make over for Royal Ascot today when they were kitted out in stunning miniature hats specially created by Award winning hat maker to Her Majesty The Queen, Rachel Trevor Morgan. The Royal line up of LEGO ladies will be showing off their new headwear at the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort's famous Miniland until the end of the famous equestrian festival on 21 June.

The talented milliner, who holds The Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen, has created hats for Her Majesty for many high profile occasions, including her 80th birthday celebrations at St Paul’s Cathedral. However, designing for a tiny LEGO Monarch was an entirely new experience. "I have created hats for a wide variety of people but making these headpieces for minute LEGO models has definitely been unique," she commented. "We had to be very creative about how we scaled our production down; I used the top of a perfume bottle as a mould for Her Majesty’s hat and such tiny stitching really needs special care and attention. Each hat is around 12 times smaller than one of my usual designs and every detail is just as it would be in life size - just a lot smaller."

The Miniland LEGO Royal line up is comprised of Her Majesty the Queen, The Duchess of Cornwall, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, Zara Tindall, The Duchess of Cambridge and her mother Carole Middleton. Guests can admire their headwear from 10 June until the end of Royal Ascot on 21 June in front of Miniland's miniature recreation of Buckingham Palace.

Her Majesty The Queen wears a characteristically classic and colourful straw hat in bright yellow with tiny hand painted silk flowers. The Duchess of Cornwall’s dove grey side sweeping picture hat is decorated with minute feathers swirling to form an elegant circular design whilst the Duchess of Cambridge wears an understated yet stunning Royal Blue straw slice hat with two miniature quill feathers. Zara Tindalls’ funky metallic disc shaped hat is topped with tiny maroon red feathers in a dramatic arrow formation whilst her cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have a jaunty white beret with jay feathers and a green feather hat.

"People love our Miniland Royal Family and they always draw attention whatever scenes we create for them," commented Divisional Director of the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Sue Kemp. "Our Miniland Royal Wedding was a huge hit, as was our depiction of the announcement of Prince George's birth last year. We even created a REAL jewelled crown for our Miniland Queen to celebrate her Jubilee. Now we are delighted to be working with Rachel and know our hats will be just as head turning as the headpieces the real Royals might be wearing at Royal Ascot - only significantly smaller."
