Celebrating the very best of Jazz
A tribute to the greats of early jazz. Django at the Farm is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Thursday 4 July at 8pm. Tickets are £16.
The Already in Berlin Band perform straight forward hard-swinging string-led early jazz with London’s newest classic jazz band. A drummerless line-up with a collective spirit of music-making reminiscent of music anchored in pre-war jazz styles.
Capturing the spirit of classic jazz pioneers from each side of the Atlantic with a programme of greats from the pens of Armstrong, Bechet and Reinhardt… music from an era when jazz was revolutionary, controversial and very ‘hot’.
Fronted by Dave Kelbie of Dime Notes, Django a la Creole and Don Vappie’s Jazz Creole, an unstoppable force of rhythm guitar with a sound described as ‘the rhythmic rumbling of a folksy freight train’.
On violin is London Django Collective’s curator, composer, educator and fast becoming a force in Jazz violin, Matt Holborn; Legend of London’s Classic jazz and African scenes guitarist John Kelly; and anchored by bassist Lorenzo Morabito.
Dave Kelbie has devoted his professional career to playing rhythm guitar. Over the last 30 years he has been a prominent accompanist to many of the world’s leading jazz soloists and possibly every celebrated guitarist in the Gypsy jazz world.
Matt Holborn is an improvising violinist based in London. He learned jazz first through his musician grandfather before studying with Omar Puente, Tim Kliphuis and Tcha Limberger amongst others.
John Kelly is a London based jazz guitarist, working across various styles from early jazz and ragtime to Hot Club style swing to contemporary jazz. Since graduating from Leeds Conservatoire in 2005 as a jazz guitarist, he has performed regularly across Europe (and further afield) as both a sideman and soloist.
