About

It’s Elton John vs The Sun in Monstering the Rocketman in award winning play

World’s biggest star battles world’s toughest tabloid in epic eighties clash! Monstering The Rocketman is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Thursday 12 March at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16.50.

Fringe First Winner 2025 and Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Award 2025.

Based on a true story in the 1980’s of when the Sun newspaper falsely accuses Elton John, of being involved with rent boys and drugs. The Rocketman launches a whopping 17 lawsuits. But the fuming Sun Editor Kelvin Mackenzie, 40 is unrepentant and insists on ‘Monstering’ the rocker into submission with a blistering campaign of media harassment.

Based on the dramatic true story of Britian’s largest ever libel case, the play features Ferraris, punch-ups, gangsters, bugged phone calls, a £10 million divorce suit, Princess Diana, the Vice Squad and a pair of Devil dogs…

Henry Naylor is a writer-performer and became a full-time playwright in 2014. He has written nine plays which have collectively won or been nominated for 56 international awards. He is one of a handful of writers who’ve won the Fringe First four times and uniquely has won the Overall Adelaide Critics’ Circle Awards three years running.

Before becoming a playwright, Naylor had a long career as both comedian and writer for TV and radio. He wrote for leading British comedy shows Smith & Jones, Lenny Henry and more. As a performer he shared a double-act with Andy Parsons.

Directed by Darren Lee Cole, a leading Producer-Director off-Broadway, having been Artist Director of the famous Soho Playhouse since 2004. His favourite projects include producing Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette and Pheobe Waller Bridge in Fleabag.

This show based on real life events is not to be missed. At the end will Elton still be standing? Or will the Sun go down on him?
