St John’s Chamber Orchestra: Beethoven’s Choral Symphony is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Saturday 11 October at 7.30pm. Tickets are £24 | Under 18s free with an adult.
The programme features Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia for piano, choir and orchestra; and Symphony No.9 'Choral'.
St John’s Chamber Orchestra’s Beethoven symphony cycle (2021 - 2025) draws to a close with the epic Ninth Symphony, with its famous Ode to Joy finale. Originally the final complete symphony composed between 1822 and 1824 and first performed in Vienna in 1824.
The final movement of the symphony, known as the Ode to Joy was adapted from a poem written by Friedrich Schiller in 1785 and revised in 1803 with additional text written by Beethoven.
The orchestra is joined by the Tamesis Chamber Choir and an outstanding quartet of soloists.
The programme also includes the earlier Choral Fantasia, with Mengyang Pan returning to Norden Farm to play the brilliant solo piano part.
Conducted by Maidenhead resident and former senior producer for BBC Radio 3, Nigel Wilkinson.
