Susie Gibbons

About

The final concert in the Summer Recital Series. St John’s Ensemble with Susie Gibbons (soprano) is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Wednesday 11 September at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18.

The summer recital series ends with Schumann’s great Quintet, full of heart-warming melodies. In a change to the original programme, the concert is headlined by soprano Susie Gibbons.

Dublin-born soprano Susie Gibbons graduated with distinction from the Royal College of Music with a Master of Performance. In the 23/24 season she made her debut with Wexford Festival Opera, as well as joining the Wexford Festival Opera chorus. Susie joined Newry Chamber Music in concert performing Rebecca Clarke’s Three Irish Country Songs and performed with Northern Ireland Opera for their Salon Series of ‘Sea Wrack’ – a performance of Irish art songs.

Susie has performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the English National Opera Chorus. She was a finalist in the 2023 Veronica Dunne Young Singers Bursary Competition and is the winner of the Bernadette Greevy Bursary and Mahler Prize.

Now based in London, Susie is also a passionate vocal coach with a busy private teaching practice.

Susie is joined by Ron Colyer and Rachel Colborne on violins. Ron Colyer was a violinist for the Philharmonic Orchestra of London and BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also taught viola and violin for over forty years.

Susan Black (viola) is a classical musician with a wide experience of both orchestral
and chamber music. Paul Cox (cello) is current conductor of the Reading Youth Orchestra. He is also Head of Strings at Southampton University and is chairman of the Eureka Foundation.

Maidenhead resident Nigel Wilkinson makes a return on piano. Nigel is an examiner for the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He was also previously a senior producer on BBC Radio 3.
