St. Luke’s church is to hold its annual Christmas Tree Festival and church will, once again, be filled with real trees and twinkling lights – symbols of hope.
The twinkling lights, thoughtful decorations and warm welcome help to set the Christmas mood. Once again, members of the church are keen to share this community activity which brings seasonal cheer.
Local businesses, voluntary groups and churches, as well as families and charities are sponsoring and decorating a real Christmas Tree following a theme of their own choice.
Refreshments will be offered among the trees, with a seasonal raffle. Church members are all contributing to a delicious food hamper as first prize.
Visitors to the festival will be invited to vote for their favourite tree by putting tokens in a pot. Last year the tree voted best dressed was decorated by the Claremont and Holyport Practice Nursing Team. Their amusing tree brought cheer to all and helped raise funds for the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice.
All the money raised from the voting pots this year will go to Number 22’s Hope Project. This local charity works with suicidal clients or clients with complex mental health issues. They see predominantly adults within this project. The counsellors who work in this project have additional training. In a time when mental health needs are great and resources are stretched this project is vital.
The Memory tree is always popular – with beautiful tags on which visitors are invited to write the names of loved ones who will be missed, especially at Christmas.
Vicar, the Reverend Sally Lynch said, ‘it is a joy to welcome people into our beautiful church. The event brings the whole community together to raise spirits and raise money for charity and church funds’.
Refreshments, donations and stalls welcome both cash / credit card.
Free entry. Donations to charity and church
