Curve Venue announces its Christmas show this year – a production rooted in Slough’s creativity. The Comet is based on the book of the same name by Joe Todd Stanton. It runs from Tuesday 16 December – Wednesday 24 December. Tickets are £14 | £12 under 16s. Age guidance 5+ years.
When Nyla has to leave her home in the countryside to start life again in the city, all she can think about is everything she misses from before. So when a comet comes crashing through the city streets and starts to glow and grow, Nyla can’t resist a chance to head somewhere that feels closer to what she had before… but what starts as an escape could be just the thing to make her finally feel at home.
The Comet book is by renowned British author and illustrator Joe Todd Stanton. He won the coveted Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2018. The book has been adapted by StoryDen, with permission from the author. Research and development included workshops at local schools, where pupils explored the book and its themes.
The creative team includes founder of Salt Hill VR Jay Younes (VR and visuals); award winning Slough based writer Desree (script); and Simone Carty (music) who was raised in Slough.
The Comet is directed by Fiona Creese of theatre company Slot Machine, with design by Amelia Pimlott. The set is being crafted locally at Norden Farm in Maidenhead by its technical team.
The Comet features original music, songs, puppetry and projections.
