This musical journey from the UK’s only JJ Cale tribute act celebrates his legacy. Featuring his classic songs After Midnight, Call Me the Breeze and many more. The JJ Cale Story was formed to pay tribute to the music of JJ Cale and Eric Clapton - originally inspired by the album The Road to Escondido - a collaborative studio album they made together.
John Weldon ‘JJ Cale’ was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. Though he avoided the limelight, his influence as a musical artist has been acknowledged by figures such as Neil Young and Mark Knopfler. Eric Clapton described him as one of the most important artists in rock history. He is one of the originators of the Tulsa sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country and jazz.
In 1966, JJ Cale cut a demo single with Liberty Records of his song After Midnight, with Slow Motion as the B side. Later, Eric Clapton recorded the song After Midnight on his debut album and it became a top 20 hit. In 1974, Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded his song Call Me the Breeze. In 1976, JJ Cale’s album Troubadour included the song Cocaine, which became a major hit for Eric Clapton the following year.
Then in 2004, JJ Cale and Eric Clapton recorded the album The Road to Escondido together, which was named after a city in San Diego.
