Not to be missed! With former members of the legendary band The Kinks. The Kast Off Kinks are at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 10 May at 8pm. Tickets are £22.
This great line-up features Mick Avory (founding member of The Kinks and original drummer on all the classic hits from 1964-84), Mark Haley (keyboards/vocals, Kinks 1989-93, also played with The Rubettes), Mike Steed (bass/vocals, playing history with Love Affair, Chip Hawkes, Marmalade, The Rubettes and Mike Pender).
These high-class professionals are fronted by the equally talented and charismatic Dave Clarke (guitar/main vocals). Dave made three albums with the Noel Redding band, two solo albums as Dave Carlsen and the Dream Machine, one with Jimmy McCulloch, and several others including Mick Avory, Dave Rowberry, Tim Rose and Keith Moon. Dave has been a member of the Kast Off Kinks since it was formed almost thirty years ago.
Mick Avory is the definitive Kinks drummer for most fans. He joined the Kinks (at that time still known as The Ravens) in January 1964. The first hit to feature his drumming was Kinda Kinks although his most brilliant moments would come on albums Village Green, Preservation Society and Arthur. His last recorded performance was on Word of Mouth where he was featured on three tracks.
Mark Haley learned classical piano at the age of 5. He began playing in bands at school then went straight into the music business after taking his exams. Best known for his 5 year stint as keyboardist with The Kinks, Mark’s first lucky break came when he was invited to record and tour with the legendary Bill Fury which opened the door to a succession of opportunities with many established bands.
Mike Steed’s first shot to prominence in the music world when he landed the gig with English goth rockers Flesh For Lulu in the 1980s. His career has coincided frequently throughout the nineties and noughties with that of long-time friend Ian Gibbons. Mike has racked up many other musical credits away from his Kinks connections, with various 60s and 70s artists. He had 6 very happy years in The Marmalade. There have been extended stints in The Rubettes and The Pacemakers and short touring spells for Mike Pender, PJ Proby, Dave Berry and Herman’s Hermitts.
Expect all the hits, including You really Got Me, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Sunny Afternoon, Lola Days, Waterloo Sunset, Come Dancing and many more for a great night out!
