The colours of autumn are nature’s final flourish before the onset of winter. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is beautiful at any time of year but as the seasons move to the orange, golds and reds of autumn, perhaps this is as good a time as any to visit and stay with us!
Now the nights are drawing in and the weather is getting cooler, the prospect of a cosy, warm place where you can put up your feet or rest your head after a day’s sightseeing is even more appealing! Some of our accommodation providers even have that roaring and crackling log fire to welcome you.
We have plenty of places to choose from with hotels, guest accommodation and self catering to suit all budgets. Opening soon is Fairmont Windsor Park. Great Fosters has just opened The Dower House with a beautiful selection of brand new rooms and suites. And North Lodge, a private three-bedroom gatehouse cottage, has been unveiled at Coworth Park. If you enjoy leaf peeping, conker collecting and bracing walks then you will delight in the Royal Borough’s countryside, parks, gardens and open spaces.
We’ve also selected our five best walks for autumn colour here.
There's plenty of things to do when you come. Racing continues at Ascot Racecourse with a move from flat to jumps racing in October. Entertainment at Ascot to accompany the racing includes the fantastic Beer Festival.
Take your pick from some fabulous fireworks spectaculars, and a first for Windsor is Windsor Great Park Illuminated, a very special light trail where the woodland and water of Windsor Great Park will come alive with dazzling lights, dancing stars and breath-taking projections.
At Windsor Castle, the Semi-State Rooms – the private apartments used by The Queen for official entertaining – open to the public and are included in the ticket price.
If you have children to entertain during the school holidays then take a look at our Half Term and Halloween pages.
