Two top comedians preview their latest work ahead of the Edinburgh Festival. Avalon Edinburgh Preview: Marise Gaughan and Jonny Pelham is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Wednesday 8 April at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15.
Marise Gaughan is a critically acclaimed comedian and author from Dublin. She started her stand-up career in Los Angeles, appearing on stages including The Comedy Store and The Hollywood Improv. Since returning to the UK, her debut stand-up show Drowning explored her father’s (successful) suicide attempt and her own (unsuccessful) one. It premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2019 where it was nominated for the Fringe’s Spirit of Wit Moira Brady Averill Award for artists and the First Fortnight Award for shows that challenge stigma about mental health.
Marise was subsequently awarded the Women’s Irish Network Arts Bursary. She has also supported acts including Rob Delaney, Ari Shaffir and Jim Norton on tour.
Jonny Pelham is one of the most exciting stand-up comedians on the circuit. Most recently, he has appeared on Rosie Jone’s Disability Comedy Extravaganza (UKTV) as well as BBC 3’s Live from the BBC, BBC 2’s Mock The Week, Live at the Apollo and more.
Jonny is an in-demand comedy writer and actor having appeared in the Viceland series, Bobby and Harriet Getting Married as well as his own short film released as part of the Sky Comedy Shorts season, Late Bloomer (Sky Arts). His critically acclaimed Edinburgh show Off Limits saw him winning the Beyond The Fringe Herald Angel Award. It received ample praise, critical acclaim and five star reviews.
