Spanish flamenco sounds this summer at Norden Farm

Juan Martin is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 31 July at 8pm. The guitarist / composer plays and introduces his compositions within the forms of the great tradition of flamenco. Tickets are £17.50.

His unique sound has been honed through a lifetime of concerts and recordings. He has also performed with legends of song and dance, including Rafael and Eva la Yerbabuena. He has recorded 20 albums and published 17 books and appeared in a Spanish film at the age of 17. Since then, he has made three films with his flamenco dance company.

Juan learned his art in the land of its origin, Andalucia in southern Spain where he spent his formative years and where he stills retains a home. His commitment to his art has taken him to at least 40 countries around the world for concerts and he now holds an annual guitar course in Ronda, Andalucia as well as a variety of master classes initiating others into the historic traditions and exciting developments in the art today. He was voted into the top three flamenco guitarists in the world by Guitar Player USA and performed in cities including Shanghai, Melbourne and New York as well as the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Critics have compared his compositional talent to Albéniz, Turina and Tárrega. He also performed at Picasso’s 90th birthday celebrations.

His guitar method books are now translated into many languages. His original book is often referred to as “the bible” of flamenco guitar.
