Critically-acclaimed Italian vocalist joins forces with gypsy jazz outfit to create a special show. See La Bouche Manouche present An Evening with Django and Billie Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Saturday 5 October at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16.
Featuring Irene Serra. Brought together by their passion for jazz icons Django Reinhardt and Billie Holiday, this performance weaves together the life story of the two seminal artists. They were musical contemporaries and show highlights the music and songs that connected them. The mesmerising vocals of Irene Serra combined with the sizzling Gypsy Jazz influenced La Bouche Manouche present a programme of music which pays homage to both iconic musicians with repertoire chosen from their most famous recordings.
Irene is a self-proclaimed sassy girl and is joined by some of the hottest players in London. They formed one hazy evening in a smoky jazz club in London Town, when they took to the stage and wowed the crowds.
With Andy Ruiz-Palma on lead guitar, Nathan Mansfield on violin and trumpet, Amy Baldwin on double bass and Simon Rawling on rhythm guitar. La Bouche Manouche is made up of highly experienced in-demand performers. Between them they have played in prestigious venues, such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, the Southbank Centre, the Royal Festive Hall and Ronnie Scotts.
Irene Serra was born in Italy, raised in Denmark and lives in London. She has a DIY approach as well as a more traditional music education. She studied in Italy where she immersed herself in a newfound love for the Great American songbook. She discovered the art of making funny noises with her voice, known as scat singing.
Irene came to London to follow her dreams and continued her music studies at Goldsmiths College and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The performance includes much-loved tunes including Nuages, Fine And Mellows, Les Yeux Noir and Jeepers Creepers.
Join us for a unique and upbeat celebration of some of the most defining songs of the Golden era of jazz!
