Behind the music, stories from the Studio - Stuart Epps: Working with…Chris Rea is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Saturday 1 August at 8pm. Tickets are £17.50.
Record producer Stuart Epps has spent over five decades at the heart of the music industry - working with legendary artists including Elton John, Led Zeppelin, George Harrison, Chris Rea, Robbie Williams, Oasis and many more.
In this fascinating and entertaining talk, Stuart takes audiences inside the recording studio and out on tour, sharing remarkable stories from his career in music. With rare photos, videos and personal anecdotes, he reveals what it was really like to work with some of the biggest names in rock history.
Stuart engineered on many projects at The Mill in Cookham throughout the 70s and 80s, working with Elton John, George Harrison, Bill Wyman, Paul Rodgers and Chris Rea. In recent years, Stuart has continued to work with big name artists to great acclaim, as well as helping a host of promising new up-and-coming artists to sound their best.
Stuart’s official career in music began in 1967 at Dick James Music (The Beatle’s first publisher) on New Oxford Street in London as an office runner aged 15. Always ambitious, he worked his way up through being a disc cutter and tape copier to assistant engineer. At 20 he was not only an A&R manager and co-manager for Kiki Dee, but also as Elton John’s personal assistant throughout his initial US tours. He later returned to the UK as head engineer at The Mill, Cookham where he rediscovered his true passion for recording and producing. He worked with many well-known artists here in the 70s and 80s including Chris Rea, who following major successes took on the final ownership of The Mill before it closed.
A must-see for music lovers, this presentation offers a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the music business.
