A pianist returns to Norden Farm’s stage following on from her scintillating concerto performance in the Mozart birthday concert. Summer Recital Series - Xiaowen Shang (piano) is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Wednesday 13 August at 7.30pm. Tickets are £19 | Under 18s free.

Xiaowen Shang returns to give a recital which reflects her interest in 18th century keyboard music.

Nominated as one of BBC Music Magazine’s Rising Stars of 2024, Xiaowen Shang’s recent career highlights include performing her own harpsichord arrangement of Handel arias and pop song covers with mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean.

She is a versatile pianist, harpsichordist, and musician with a passion for early, classical and contemporary music. Her repertoire spans Renaissance composers to contemporary figures. She has collaborated with renowned musicians and composers such as Steven Isserlis and Joanna Macgregor. Xiaowen is also enthusiastic about interdisciplinary projects, including live visuals, theatre and silent film improvisation.

As an active performer, she has played at prestigious venues including the Royal Albery Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall. She has also won first prize in the Jacob Barnes Awards with her trio, First Prize at the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Senior Intercollegiate Competition along with the Beethoven Medal and First Prize in the WCOM Harriet Cohen Bach Competition.

Her programme includes a mighty early Sonata by Beethoven, some charming pieces by the leading French Baroque composer Couperin, and Ravel’s virtuoso tribute to great predecessor.
