The Alan Barnes Quartet

About

Multi award winning Jazz musician returns to the stage

A much sought-after jazz artist both internationally and in the UK. The Alan Barnes Quartet is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 16 August at 8pm. Tickets are £16.

Alan Barnes is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist. He is best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax. He combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers.

Alan has made over thirty albums as leader and co-leader alone. The list of his session and side-man work includes Bjork, Bryan Ferry, Michel LeGrande, Clare Teale, Westlife, Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum. His unique musicianship, indefatigable touring and warm rapport with audiences have made him uniquely popular in British jazz. He has received over 25 British Jazz Awards.

Joining Alan is Alex Hutton on piano. Alex is an established pianist on the London Jazz scene. Over the past 10 years, he has worked with most of the leading figures (such as Jim Mullen, Pete King and more). He began playing piano at the age of 5. After completing a BA Hons degree in American studies, he turned his focus fully to jazz piano. He won the appraisal of the late Ronnie Scott.

Dave Green is on bass. He turned professional in 1963 and he worked with Keith Ingham and with multi instrumentalist Pete Shade. He joined the Don Rendell Quintet in the December and remained with until 1969. In the 1980s he led his own group Fingers. He has worked and recorded with numerous groups in all styles of jazz. He has been part of the Scott Hamilton Quartet and continues to work with Alan Barnes, Henry Lowther, Gareth Williams and his own trio.

Clark Tracey is on drums. Clark grew up in a jazz environment as the son of Stan Tracey OBE, CBE and Jackie Tracey, a former head of A&R and jazz club owner. Clark has over 40 years’ experience playing alongside some of the most important artists in jazz at home and abroad. He has also appeared on TV and radio all over the world and performed on movie soundtracks including Alfie starring Jude Law.
