Prize winning saxophonist brings us an evening of jazz

Norden Farm Jazz Club presents The Paul Booth Quartet (tenor sax / soprano sax) at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 8 August at 8pm. Tickets are £17.50.

Paul Booth received early acclaim as a prize-winning saxophonist. He continues to refine and expand his talents. Paul has been a solo artist, composer, arranger and bandleader. He has also established an elite reputation as a first-call sideman for major contemporary music artists.

Paul was born in the North East of England. As a young boy he started playing music with his father in the clubs and bars of Southern Spain where the family were temporarily residing. On his return home, he discovered the local jazz scene and fell in love with the music and the art of improvisation.

At the age of 16 he won a place at the Royal Academy of Music, becoming their youngest student on a degree course. That year he won the Best Modern Jazz Player category at the televised Young Jazz Player of the Year.

Paul immersed himself in the world of the professional musician. In 2004 he released his first solo album which was followed by four more albums, all of which were extremely well received through his own Pathway Records label.

Paul has toured, performed and recorded around the world with The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Kylie Minogue and many more.

He is joined by Alex Hutton on piano, an established pianist on the London Jazz scene. Alex has worked with most of the leading figures, such as Jim Mullen and Pete King and won the appraisal of the late Ronnie Scott.

He is also joined by Laurence Cottle on electric bass who has previously played with Black Sabbath on their studio sessions as well as on albums by Eric Clapton and Van Morrison.
