Windsor Fringe 20 September to 6 October 2013

21st August 2013

Categories: News

The 2013 Fringe is set to be an eclectic, innovative and exciting festival with Jazz, Magic, Photography, Walks, Films, Beer Tasting, A Capella, Comedy, Open Mike, Latin Dance, Poetry, Medieval Merriment, Book Nights, Classical Music, Drama and again our popular Artists Open House event.

The Windsor Fringe was established in 1969, making it the oldest Fringe Festival in England and the second oldest, after Edinburgh, in the UK. Run by an all-volunteer committee, each year the Windsor Fringe stages an inspired and innovative programme of music, dance, comedy, drama and art.
Our playwriting competition, the Kenneth Branagh Drama Awards for New Writing is growing each year at such an exciting pace and reaches out to aspiring playwrights across the world. This year, our tenth anniversary, we received 307 scripts from 21 countries. Our three winning plays, selected by judges Fay Weldon CBE and Pete Gallagher will be performed at the Windsor Firestation on the 4th, 5th and 6th October with the winning playwright will be announced and awarded the first prize of £500 on the final night.

‘I am delighted to sponsor this writing award and to be a small part of an initiative that supports new writers.  Without a good play or script, the best actors and directors in the world cannot hope to produce good work and I welcome the encouragement that this award offers to writers both local and international.’ Kenneth Branagh

The three winners are Solitude by Monica Spill, directed by Kimberley Sykes, The Seventh Train by Jackie Carreira,  directed by Adam Leon and Conchiglia by Vivienne Allen , directed by Lorna Pearson- Hall. Come and see some excellent new writing and see if you can guess who our judges picked as the winning play.

Our Artist in House event on the 21st & 22nd September is a fabulous opportunity to see the work of local artists in their own homes. Walk the art trail round ten splendid houses in the centre of Windsor and win a prize if you can be the first to get your name into all the visitors books! The houses will be showcasing the work of over twenty artists. You will be sure of a warm welcome, refreshments, stimulating viewing, discussion with the artists, and an afternoon of good fun. Pick up a trail map at the first house you visit or download one from the Windsor Fringe website

We have something for everyone, so do come and support our performers and artists and the Windsor Fringe.
