Timeless Walking Tours — Self-Guided Audio Tours of the Thames Valley
Self-guided audio walking tours of royal Windsor, historic Eton, the Magna Carta meadows of Runnymede and charming Richmond-upon-Thames — created and narrated by Deborah, a local historian who grew up in the shadow of Windsor Castle. Explore at your own pace, in your own time, with no booking, no group and no fixed start time.
Windsor — The Royal Town of Windsor: From the Castle to the River Thames
Walk the royal streets of Windsor and discover nearly a thousand years of history from the Castle's magnificent exterior to the banks of the Thames. Stroll the sweeping Long Walk inspired by the gardens at Versailles, discover why the Crooked House leans the way it does, and walk in the footsteps of rock stars and royalty at the Guildhall — where both King Charles and Sir Elton John chose to marry. Visit the home of Nell Gwynn, hear how Shakespeare was inspired by these very streets, and uncover a surprising thread of Second World War history woven through the town.
"First time visiting the UK from the Cayman Islands. Windsor is a fascinating town, I learnt so much whilst doing this walk. Great way to spend time getting to know the town. Highly recommend!" — Patty McLean ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Eton — History's Roll Call: A Guide to Eton Town and its College
Cross the bridge into Eton and step into six centuries of extraordinary history. Eton College has shaped the world like no other school — nineteen British Prime Ministers, princes, poets and spies have all walked these streets. Among them Ian Fleming, whose time here is said to have inspired the most famous number in spy fiction. Stroll the High Street and discover hidden curiosities most visitors walk straight past — a rare 1856 Victorian pillar box, a route marker from the 1908 Olympic Marathon, wall markings scratched by nervous students awaiting their exams, and Sir Antony Gormley's sculpture hidden in plain sight. This is a town that wears its history quietly — but once you know where to look, the stories are extraordinary.
Runnymede — Kings, Rebels and Rights: Runnymede's Riverside Memorials
This beautiful stretch of Thames-side meadow has been witness to history since the Bronze Age — but it was on this ground in 1215 that King John agreed the terms of Magna Carta and changed the course of civilisation forever. Walk through ancient woodland and riverside meadows, past contemporary art installations and memorials that span eight centuries of political thought. Stand on a piece of land officially designated American soil, where the John F. Kennedy Memorial was gifted by the British people to the American nation. Picnics and politics have always gone hand in hand at Runnymede — and once you hear its stories, you'll never see this quietly extraordinary landscape the same way again.
Coopers Hill — Runnymede Royal Air Forces Memorial: Honouring the Fallen
High above the Thames on Coopers Hill, 20,456 names of airmen and women lost in the Second World War are inscribed in Portland stone, overlooking the meadows they gave their lives to protect. The award-winning architecture of Sir Edward Maufe was inspired by the design of a control tower — a quietly powerful tribute to the men and women who flew from them. Discover the engraved glass and painted ceilings of artist John Hutton, and take in panoramic views across the river and Runnymede below.
Richmond — The Ted Lasso Way: A Richmond Walking Tour
Just 20 minutes from Windsor by train, Richmond-upon-Thames is one of London's most beautiful neighbourhoods — and the real location behind the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. Walk the actual filming locations from all three series, find Ted's iconic front door, and discover the genuine history and charm that made the show's creators fall for Richmond in the first place.
Tours are played on your mobile phone using VoiceMap. Download the free VoiceMap app on iPhone or Android. GPS-triggered audio plays automatically as you walk. Works offline.
