Recently the news has been so absurd, chaotic and overwhelming that it more or less mocks itself. Where do we go from here? Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday 13 March at 8pm. Tickets are £18.50.
Daliso Chaponda has been writing jokes about the news for over a decade – on Have I Got News For You, Radio 4’s News Quiz, Australia’s Good News Week and many more besides (in fact he’s seen the news from both sides, having been in the tabloids himself).
Topical Storm is Daliso’s response. A show not about THE news but about news itself. Journalists, bloggers, fake news, satirical news: have we lost the thread of it all? Is the reporting of news endlessly polarising us as a society rather than educating us? Would we be better off going right back to the first ever news bulletin – the original caveman drawing on a wall – and starting from scratch? Daliso does just that in this explosive new stand up show.
Daliso explores all this with the sharp one-liners, playful curiosity and thought-provoking punchlines that have made him one of Britain’s most beloved stand up comedians. At once hilarious and timely, Topical Storm is comedy’s attempt to find clarity in the avalanche of 24-hour rolling headlines.
Daliso Chaponda shot to fame on Britain’s Got Talent, making it to the final of the 2017 series. He established himself as firm favourite with the judges and the British public. He became a Facebook and YouTube star amassing over 200 million views of his performances.
Now with over 300 million views of his stand up online, Daliso is also the writer, creator and host of his Rose d’Or nominated radio show Citizen of Nowhere that has aired for four series.
He has performed around the world and toured the UK three times to sell out audiences and rave reviews. Don’t miss his hilarious show as he brings it live to Maidenhead.
Tickets are £18.50
