Energetic Scottish band play to Maidenhead audience

Playing European music that is evocative, inventive and endlessly exciting. Firelight Trio perform at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Thursday 12 June at 8pm. Tickets are £16.50.

Firelight Trio is a mighty new group featuring Fatea instrumentalist of the year 2023 Gavin Marwick (fiddle), accordionist Phil Alexander (Moishe’s Bagel) and Ruth Morris (Outlander - HBO) on the beautiful Swedish Nyckelharpa.

They’re a veritable roots music supergroup with their collective fingers currently and formerly in a plethora of pies. They have been friends for fifteen years and have spent many happy hours swapping tunes around kitchen tables and fire pits. They share an adventurous musical spirit. The three instruments are an amazing combination which can be very powerful and also very beautiful.

Their rich and varied amalgamation of European folk music sees them all stretch their musical wings. They bring a certain groove, a desire to explore and a flair in their arrangements to make them stand out.

Ruth’s resonant nyckelharpa is matched by Gavin’s powerhouse fiddle, all backed up by Phil’s groovily inventive accordion and piano. A rich tapestry of lively Swedish polskas and Scottish reels, lilting French waltzes, toe-tapping klezmer, dazzling original tunes and more.
